I served in the Marine.

Kevin Dale Castleberry, 57, passed away July 11th, 2018 after a brief battle with liver disease. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, July 14th at Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 Hwy 277 S. Abilene, TX. with Jody Forbus officiating. Visitation will be held Friday, July 13th 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Kevin was born in Abilene on May 24th, 1961. He attended Cooper High School and was involved with the St. James UMC youth group while growing up. He then chose to enlist in the U.S. Marines, along with his brother Randy and good friend James Miller, where he worked as a combat engineer.

Kevin will be remembered for his hardworking nature. He spent most of his life working as a master plasterer, restoring historical buildings and courthouses from New York to Colorado. He was a very talented artist and could create almost anything from any type of material. He also had a love for restoring old furniture and enjoyed showing and sharing his work. His passion was to cook, garden, farm, and build things and he used every opportunity to teach others what he knew. He appreciated the simple things in life that brought him pleasure and peace. He had his own philosophy and ideas about how things should be and was quick to let people know his thoughts. He was notorious for his entertaining comments and comebacks, even throughout his illness. Kevin fought his disease with courage and strength, and never let go of hope. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

Kevin was preceded in death by his son Joshua, mother Sandra McGough Kelley, Papa and Granny D.J. and Margaret McGough, brother Randy Castleberry, and sister Jennifer Castleberry.

Survivors include his children Ethan Kinsey of Sachse, Tx., D.J. and Rachael Babcock of Tacoma, Washington, Jacob Castleberry of Abilene, and Jordan Castleberry of Brownwood. He is also survived by his father Charles Castleberry of Louisiana, brothers Jeff Castleberry of Lockhart, Jody Crafton and wife Leticia of Abilene, Charles Glenn Castleberry of Wichita Falls, and Robert Castleberry of Abilene. Sisters Tammy Wolford of Abilene, Sherri Ball of Cross Plains, Tina Wyatt and husband Curtis of Cross Plains, and Dana Miller and husband Ron of Abilene. Sister in law Monica Castleberry of Abilene, Step-siblings Ray Dukes and Tanya Gannaway of Abilene, 2 grandchildren, several aunts, uncles, cousins and many nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to give a special thanks to Hendrick Medical Center ICU nurses and doctors and dialysis team for the care given to our loved one.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the American Liver Foundation or Rescue the Animals.
